Jesus: Humiliated and Exalted

v5-9 - The World to Come, Subjected to Jesus
v10-13 - Jesus is the Perfect Sanctifier
v14-18 - Jesus Destroys and Delivers

Jesus, glorious and divine, in his incarnation  stepped down, below the angels, and there, dwelling among sinners (though himself without sin) did a work that neither angels nor men could do; he made purification for sin through his sacrifice on the cross, and so he inherits the excellent name as the God-man, mediating purifier.

Isaiah 53:21
he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him.

Romans 8:17 speaking of the children of God
heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

Hebrews 5:8–9
Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him

Hebrews 12:2
looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Conclusion by A. W. Pink
The Inheritance [that is, the world to come] will not be governed by angels; they are but ministers to its "heirs."

Exhortation by A. W. Pink
Continue to hold fast your allegiance to Christ, for the time is coming when those who do so shall enter into a glory surpassing that of the angels.

Martin Luther
Christ In The Bands Of Death Was Laid
By none of all the sons of men
Could death’s dark realm be shaken
Sin made our strength all weak and vain:
All have of guilt partaken.
Thus came death upon us all,
And bound the fallen world in thrall
Beneath his dread dominion. Hallelujah!

But Jesus Christ, God’s only Son,
Hath in our stead descended:
O’er death our Lord the victory won,
When He transgression ended.
He destroyed death’s power and claim,
And left to death an empty name:
Away his sting has taken. Hallelujah!

Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me
Jesus, Savior, pilot me
Over life’s tempestuous sea;
Unknown waves before me roll,
Hiding rock and treacherous shoal.
Chart and compass come from Thee;
Savior, pilot me.
