Jesus: King of an Unshakeable Kingdom
1. YOU HAVE NOT COME: THE UNMEDIATED MOUNTAIN
a. The Sight was Fearsome
b. The Sound was Intolerable
2. YOU HAVE COME: THE MEDIATED MOUNTAIN
a. The Sight is Abiding
b. The Sound is a Better Word
Functionally, are you living as though this grace, forgiveness and mercy is truly a better word?
- Is it better than your sin?
- Is it better than your self-righteousness?
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
In Deuteronomy 5:24-27 (recapping Exodus 19-20)
Behold, the LORD our God has shown us his glory and greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire. This day we have seen God speak with man, and man still live. Now therefore why should we die? For this great fire will consume us. If we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, we shall die. For who is there of all flesh, that has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of fire as we have, and has still lived?
Go near and hear all that the LORD our God will say, and speak to us all that the LORD our God will speak to you, and we will hear and do it.
They are right in all that they have spoken. Oh that they had such a heart as this always, to fear me and to keep all my commandments.
For this great fire will consume us. If we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, we shall die.
Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion,
which cannot be moved, but abides forever.
And the LORD said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to me from the ground. And now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.
