Psalm 110 | King and Priest
V1 AND V5 - THE ORIGINS OF SALVATION AND THE JUDGEMENT OF HEAVEN
V2 AND V6 - YAHWEH SENDS MESSIAH TO RULE
V3 AND V7 - MESSIAH'S PEOPLE AND PURPOSE ARE UNITED
V4 - MESSIAH IS PRIEST AND KING FOREVER
Never has it been more important for us to note the words "A Psalm of David." Here we have David, the great king, speaking of one who is greater than himself. The Messiah, who the prophets tell us comes from the line of David, was actually before him and above him.
Salvation has its origins in the divine will of heaven. But let us not overlook the reality that the divine will of heaven severely includes judgement upon those who have made themselves enemies of the King and his kingdom.
Whatever is the decree of heaven, it will not pass away or fade, but will remain fresh and refreshing forever.
And then consider “the sons of disobedience” from Ephesians 2:2-5 the sons of disobedience—among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved
Your throne, O God, is forever and ever.
The scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of uprightness;
you have loved righteousness and hated wickedness.
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? …
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
