Read John 11:32-35. Jesus shows us deep empathy and emotion in his lament in this passage. Share with the group what has been hard for you and your household during this pandemic.
Both Martha and Mary say the same words to Jesus, “Lord, if you have been here, my brother would not have died,” and yet their interaction with Jesus is very different. Compare and contrast Jesus’ words and interaction with these two individuals.
What can we learn from the difference between Martha and Mary for how God might use the diversity of people at CrossPointe Coast to teach us more fully who he is?
Read John 11:25. Jesus tells Martha that he is the resurrection and the life. How can Jesus raise a man from the dead if death is his own righteous judgment/curse upon sin?
We aren’t told when or where, but Lazarus eventually died (again). Does that mean that ultimately Jesus’ resurrection failed? What is Lazarus’ hope if he will ultimately die again? How might this reality instruct us as we seek to see healing and restoration at work in this world and yet suffering and death seem so constantly present?
