Do You Understand What You Are Reading?
Preacher: Jeremiah Fyffe
1. THE SPIRIT IS THE EVANGELIST
2. v30 - DO YOU UNDERSTAND?
3. v31 - HOW CAN I?
4. v34 - ABOUT WHOM?
5. v36 - WHAT PREVENTS ME? WHAT PREVENTS YOU?
The Holy Spirit sends.
The church preaches.
The nations hear.
And out from among the nations, a redeemed people believe.
John 16:13 says
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth …
How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”

Read Acts 8:26-40. In this passage the Holy Spirit arranges and directs an encounter between Philip and an Ethiopian eunuch over the Bible. How have conversations with other believers about the Bible served you in your own conversion and discipleship?
In John 16:13 Jesus says, “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth .…” And yet, the Spirit chooses to use Philip and many other disciples to preach the truth throughout the book of Acts. How might you use the Bible to share the gospel with someone else? (Consider reading the book “One to One Bible Reading” by David Helm.)
The Ethiopian asks the question “What prevents me?” as he considers the next steps in his own discipleship. What would you consider to be next steps that you should take as you follow Christ? Examples may be: set a time to read the Bible weekly with someone else at CPCoast, ask someone at work if they would be willing to explore the Gospel of Mark with you over lunch hour, speak to the elders about baptism, set a daily time to read a chapter in the Bible before breakfast, speak with the elders about becoming a Community Group leader, etc.
