ZEAL FOR GLORY: Paul and Barnabas’ Reaction

CONFRONTING THE CULTURE

1. We must see the idolatry of the culture we find ourselves in.

2. We must be zealous for the glory of God alone.

3. We must be witnesses to the truth of Christ.

Acts 1:8

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses

QUESTION 1:

Read Acts 14:8-18. The people of Lystra were clearly caught in idolatrous lies about reality. Is there anything in the culture around us, in your background or upbringing or even that you see in our church that is not in line with the reality revealed in scripture?

QUESTION 2:

Paul and Barnabas’ response to the idolatry in Lystra was extreme. Their zeal for the glory of God alone is instructive or us. How can we both be winsome in our declaration of the gospel and zealous for God’s glory against idolatry in this County?

QUESTION 3:

Paul lays out from excellent and clear doctrinal foundations in verses 15-17: God the Creator, humanity’s creatureliness, God’s generous providence. How does doctrinal clarity and a knowledge of the scriptures aid us as we are witnesses of Jesus in our culture?
